Description & Services
Information | The Annapolis Valley African Violet Society is a small group of people in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia who meet monthly to discuss the growing and care of Saintpaulias (African Violets) and other related plants in the gesneriad family. The group is highly active and between them, the members grow approximately 450 different varieties of African Violet, Streptocarpus, Columnea, Aeschynanthus, Sinningia, Episcia and Primulina. Many of the members attend African Violet Conventions and shows throughout Canada and the U.S.A. The AVAVS is affiliated with the African Violet Society of Canada (AVSC) and the African Violet Society of America (AVSA). The AVAVS has a judged show each year where the growing efforts of its members are recognized and rewarded. In its membership, the AVAVS has two Senior AVSA certified Judges as well as an Advanced Judge and a Student Judge who provide the group with a wealth of information on showing and judging plants The AVAVS maintains an extensive library of books, magazines, newsletters and CD ROMs that are available to its members. The AVAVS is always eager to have new members and if you are interested in sharing your growing experiences with us or learning more about African Violets and other Gesneriads please e-mail us at the address noted above. |
