|Description & Services|
The Kings-Kikima Grannies began several years ago as a result of a desire to help grandmothers in Africa who are raising their grandchildren because their children have died from HIV/AIDS.
We are grandmothers and grand-others from Kings County, Nova Scotia. We were able to connect with a group of 30 grandmothers in Kikima, Kenya who are raising their grandchildren and who were in desperate need of support.
Our fundraising efforts consist of collecting and selling donated 'previously loved’ jewelry, and an annual yard sale. We are also supported by other community organizations for special projects such as our water tanks and HIV/AIDS educational workshops in Kikima.
As a result of these sales, we have been able to send money for food, school fees, uniforms and help in the construction of a water weir.
Also, we have made micro-loans that have been paid make and bought seeds for their crops.
Along with a local Rotary group, goats have been purchase for the families.
If you have any questions or wish to donate jewelry please contact us!
Alone, it may seem impossible; with others, lives are changed.
