Description & Services
Information | The Arthritis Society is Canada’s national charity dedicated to creating a world where people are free from the devastating effects of arthritis. We represent the six million Canadians living with arthritis today, and the millions more who are impacted or at risk. The Arthritis Society was formed over 70 years ago with one very clear goal: to alleviate the suffering of people affected by arthritis. Founded in 1948 by Dr. Wallace Graham and his medical peers from across the country, and championed by community advocate Mary Pack, the organization was instrumental in advancing care for people facing the most aggressive forms of arthritis. That same passion to alleviate suffering continues to drive us today. Thanks to the trust and support of our donors, sponsors and volunteers, the Arthritis Society is the largest charitable funder of cutting-edge arthritis research in Canada and a leader in proactive advocacy, innovative information and support that delivers better health outcomes for people living with arthritis. The challenge is real – the time is now Arthritis is Canada’s most common chronic health condition and there is no cure. The disease affects the lives of six million Canadians (1 in 5 adults) and nearly half of people over 65. Without a greater spotlight on this growing issue, the number of Canadians with arthritis will rise to nine million (1 in 4 adults) by 2040. That’s a further three million Canadians impacted by this disease – along with their families and communities. Through the continued generosity of our supporters, the Arthritis Society will achieve our vision to live in a world where people are free from the devastating effects of arthritis. The Arthritis Society is accredited under Imagine Canada’s Standards Program. |
